The National Police Memorial
The Memorial is at the junction of the Mall and Horse Guards in Westminster, London.
It was designed by Lord Foster of Thames Bank and opened by HM The Queen in April 2005. Access for visitors to the Memorial is available every day, 24 hours a day, except on State occasions or for security requirements the Memorial access may then have to be restricted. As soon as is possible after these events, access is allowed.
This was the first Memorial to be placed in St James’s Park for over one hundred years and against strong opposition, Michael fought for over 10 years to obtain planning permission and then funded the Memorial construction personally at a cost of over a million pounds.
The Police Memorial Trust have placed over 50 local memorials to fallen officers. The National Police Memorial commemorates all officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
